The Epicurious Wanderers!

Good Morning Vietnam, we’re back!

After way too long and many other travels we’ve finally made it back to Vietnam.  This trip we’re traveling South to North, starting with time in Ho Chi Minh, then moving on to Hoi An before heading on up to Hanoi.

We hit the ground running yesterday. After catching the red eye out of Perth to Singapore, having a 3 hour layover and flying in to Vietnam we arrived at hotel about mid day.  We’d now been awake for a day and a half as neither of us slept on the plane.  As a side note have to say SingaporeAir’s new 787/10 was not the best flight I’ve had, my seat felt like it sloped slightly forward meaning I couldn’t get comfortable.  Also seats felt very crowded together.  The older A330 on the second flight was much more comfortable.

But enough of that, let’s get to the point… VIETNAM..

It’s so good to be back here; the people, the food, the scenery, did I mention the food…  After checking in we had a shower to wash away the hours of travel then went for an orientation walk.  Our hotel the Saigon Prince, is nice and central in District One, right on Nguyen Hue.  Within 100m there are so many restaurants and bars it’s amazing.  We wandered past Luke Nguyen’s Vietnam House, not really dressed for it today before hitting up Jaspas for a few drinks and a light snack.  Then a stroll back to the hotel and time for a swim and rest before dinner.

Snack time

A friend suggested we try SH Garden for dinner, a rooftop terrace restaurant with a range of local cuisine and great views.  Thanks Adam, it was a top choice.  The food was sensational, we may have over ordered just a bit, but nothing was left behind.  After dinner we strolled back along the road watching the locals enjoying the balmy evening; young people hanging out, families almost picnicking on the street and a range of street artists doing their thing.

Over order, maybe not!

After being awake though for almost 40 hours by this stage we decided that some sleep was called for.  Besides, tomorrow is another day and that will take us to a few holes in the ground and maybe some buildings…

S H Garden restaurant had a unique way of getting you up 3 of the 4 floors. You get into an old open cage lift. It was a little scary but then we noticed that the technology had been updated.
