The Epicurious Wanderers!

Where has the week gone???

Well our time here is drawing to an end.  Thankfully the weather did pickup, hence we’ve been too busy to update our blog!  So what have we been up to then, I could just say shopping, eating and drinking but that would leave a few things out..

We’ve visited the factory outlet stores for some cheap shopping, scored a few bargains, even got myself a pair of Dr Marten’s, no not the skinhead type boots.  Yesterday we hired a car and driver and headed off for a look around Phuket.  We visted the Big Buddha, bought a marble tile and wrote our names on it, this will be placed on the statue as they finish building it.  We were blessed by the monks, did find it strange though that in the midst of such a holy place the monk suddenly stopped blessing people and answered his mobile phone.  Mind you that seems typical of Thai culture, it’s a real mix of the old ways of life colliding with the more western way of doing things, still time is not a big feature though, nothing seems to run to time.  After that we headed to Wat Chalong, a huge temple complex and again a collison of old and new, but very fascinating to see.  A few other photo stops along the way and it was back to the hotel for a swim and bit of relaxing.

We’ve also been to a comedy theatre dinner show, run by Russians, that was a good night out.  A mix of vaudeville and slapstick combined with a 5 course meal, something I’d recommend if you get this way is a visit to Phuket Palazzo.

Also we’ve visited a shooting cafe, it’s located in JungCeylon (Pating’s big shopping mall), it’s just near the KFC store.  Where else but in Thailand could you take a break during your shopping to shoot a few targets?  We used a mix of handguns, 22 rifles, a shotgun and a military assault rifle, all good fun really.  Although Helen did find the shotgun a bit hard on the shoulder.

Well that’s about it for now, off out again soon, although the weather has closed in again today and seems very stormy so will just have to see what the day brings.
