The Epicurious Wanderers!

Up, up and away, almost!

Our day got off to a rapid start this morning. Although we set an alarm for 4:45am ready for our ballon escapade it failed! We were woken by the security man at Summerfields ringing the cowbell at the end our walkway. The driver was here to get us, it was 5:10am… I’ve never seen Helen get up and get dressed so quickly, we were out the door in about 3 minutes and by 5:16am in the car and in the way.

It took about 10 minutes to to the balloon launch site. When we arrived the baskets were still on the trailers…… Mmm
The people who run the tours came over and introduced themselves. They had been receiving weather reports all yesterday that had indicated excellent conditions. But at 4:00am this morning the report had changed, the was an increase in wind speed. Just enough to put us on the brink of safety. To test they launch small helium balloons at the launch site and track their movement. If they are too fast or erratic the ballon flight is cancelled for safety. As they say they would rather be in the ground wishing they were in the air rather than in the air wishing they were on the ground.
After a few helium balloons the decision was made, it wasn’t going to be a flying day today.

Helen and I are a little gutted by this, we had so been looking forward to our ride but now it was cancelled.

So by 6:00am we were back in our tented room and climbing back onto bed. Breakfast isn’t till 7:00 so we may as well get some sleep.
